🎶 Exactly 4 years ago today, my piece Rainy Mondays was released along with this video clip. This release was actually the first official one of my trio project, and I felt so much excitement, anticipation, and curiosity for how the audience would receive it.
My heart was filled with much joy and light by everyone's reactions 🥰
For me, this piece is about integration between one of my most profound classical music inspirations – the polyphony of J. S. Bach – and what jazz is to me: freedom (and the joy of uneven meters, of course).
I explored this even more in-depth on the Serenity Island album when I layered six tracks to create the polyphonic piano solo. In this first release, you can see my improvisation of this solo as a simple polyphonic section in a 4/4 meter integrated between the 7/8 sections, supported by the beautiful groove and tremendous delicacy of Mr. Gal Petel on the drums.
On the bass is the great Gilad Abro, and I still remember how happy I felt to experience this recording session with his counterpoint in my headphones.
